Performance…. It’s not just in Sports!
Every day of our lives we are performing, to be human is to perform. When we look at sport or other fields in performance psychology such first responders, performing artists or the military, what performance looks like will vary based on the nature of the work. Performance involves at a minimum one person actively engaging in a skill to the best of their ability in a specific moment knowing that their actions have consequences (Hays & Brown, 2004). There are times when an individual or team performs up to their desired standards and there are other times that this does not occur. Possessing and honing one’s mental skills is essential towards excellence. This can include goal setting, imagery, relaxation, self-talk, pre-performance routines and emotional regulation. Sport as Life can support individuals and teams in all these areas and so many more towards providing the confidence and motivation to excel in all areas of performance.
