The Power of Process and Perseverance

June 11, 2026

This past weekend tennis player Maja Chwalinska finished runner-up at the French Open. Reading her story speaks to her character, determination, willingness and GRIT. The 24 year old started her career 18 years ago and endured numerous challenges in her journey managing her mental health along with playing on the professional 2nd tier tour. As a qualifier for this years tournament she had to play players ranked often much than her and with her getting so far a Polish company stepped in to help cover her continued need for accommodations in Paris. As a lower ranked player it is well known the gruelling and unforgiving schedule of playing all over the world just trying to make ends meet. Maja talked about the journey to this point believing one day it would click.

From a mental performance perspective it would have been essential for her to focus on the here-and-now in every match not getting caught up mistakes, which all athletes make, and not getting pulled into the future that would impact her performance in the present. Furthermore, the perspective she has now gained from her experience and the pay off of experiencing the challenges she did, personally and professionally, will support her on-going development. It is a powerful testament in remaining true to her process of development and being willing to persevere. When times are tough and when they are full of success an important element is to have perspective and look broadly at what brought you this point and what are the next steps to take.
